Biography

Dalton Smith, born on February 8, 1997, in Sheffield, England, is an undefeated professional boxer nicknamed “Thunder.” Smith has quickly become one of the most promising fighters in British boxing. His introduction to the sport came early, guided by his father, Grant Smith, who remains his trainer. Growing up in Sheffield, Dalton was naturally athletic and initially played football before transitioning to boxing at the age of five. This father-son bond remains central to his identity in the ring, forming a foundation of trust and focus.

As an amateur, Smith found success on both national and international stages. He earned a silver medal at the 2014 European Youth Championships and a bronze at the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games. In 2018, he captured the ABA Championship at light-welterweight. Between 2016 and 2018, he represented the British Lionhearts in the World Series of Boxing, gaining valuable experience against elite global talent.

Turning professional in May 2019 with Matchroom Boxing, Smith rose rapidly through the domestic and continental ranks. He won the British super-lightweight title in August 2022 with a sixth-round TKO over Sam O’maison, then added the Commonwealth title in July 2023 by stopping Sam Maxwell in the seventh round. His breakout performance came in March 2024, when he knocked out veteran Jose Zepeda with a brutal body shot in the fifth round to claim the WBC Silver title. He followed that up with a first-round demolition of Walid Ouizza in January 2025 to capture the European crown. In April 2025, he delivered a dominant performance over Harlem Eubank, scoring three knockdowns and reaffirming his position as one of Europe’s elite.

Sheffield is more than Dalton Smith’s hometown—it’s a crucible of boxing tradition, a city where steel and grit forged both industry and fighters. Located in South Yorkshire, Sheffield carries a legacy of working-class pride and combat sports excellence. It may not hold the global fame of London or the wrestling mystique of Dagestan, but in British boxing, Sheffield commands deep respect. The city has produced champions like Prince Naseem Hamed, Kell Brook, and Johnny Nelson—fighters who emerged from the storied Ingle Gym. Dalton Smith carries this legacy forward through a different lineage—one rooted in the Steel City Gym, under his father’s guidance. In Sheffield, boxing is more than a sport; it’s a language of survival.
