Dalton Smith’s first defense of the WBC junior welterweight title against Alberto Puello is now being targeted for October or November at Utilita Arena in Sheffield.
Smith was originally scheduled to defend against mandatory challenger Puello on June 6, but the fight was postponed after Smith suffered an elbow injury.
The delay means Smith’s long-awaited homecoming will have to wait a little longer. The Sheffield fighter won the WBC belt away from home in January, stopping Subriel Matias inside five rounds at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Puello remains the mandatory challenger, and Matchroom Boxing is now looking to bring the fight back to Sheffield later this year.
