Dalton Smith will make the first defense of his WBC junior welterweight title against Alberto Puello on June 6 at the Utilita Arena in Sheffield.
Smith (19-0, 14 KOs) won the title in January with a stoppage victory over Subriel Matias in New York. The bout marked a significant win, as Matias had previously taken the title from Puello.

Puello (24-1, 10 KOs), the WBC’s No. 1 contender, now gets the chance to regain the belt. “I’m excited to be fighting for my title again,” Puello said. “I’m looking forward to becoming a three-time world champion… Smith is a good boxer. I’m excited to share the ring with him.”
For Smith, the focus shifts to defending his title at home. “Now it’s about bringing big world title fights to Sheffield,” he said. “It’s straight into a mandatory defence so you expect world class opponents.” He as well acknowledged the challenge Puello presents. “Puello’s an awkward southpaw… but it’s well known I love that style.”
The fight will be promoted by Matchroom Boxing and broadcast live on DAZN.
