Fight Details

Tim Tszyu is set to follow in his father Kostya Tszyu’s footsteps, as he prepares to take on undefeated Russian Bakhram Murtazaliev for the IBF super-welterweight title at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida.

This fight comes after the IBF ordered Murtazaliev to defend his title against Tszyu, who is currently ranked as the highest contender in the division and a former WBO world champion. However, Tszyu has faced multiple setbacks in recent months, including opponents withdrawing from scheduled fights. This time, he hopes Murtazaliev will not be another no-show, as he prepares for what could be a career-defining match.

Tszyu’s promoter, George Rose, praised his resilience, highlighting Tszyu’s ability to bounce back from his last fight against Sebastian Fundora in Las Vegas. In that fight, Tszyu suffered a devastating head injury after an elbow strike and lost via split decision, marking the first defeat of his career. Rose emphasized Tszyu’s "warrior spirit" and believes this upcoming fight will showcase why he remains one of the best 154-pound fighters in the world.

If Tszyu can claim victory over Murtazaliev, he will join his father Kostya as the first Australian father-son duo to hold multiple world titles. Tszyu expressed his determination to capture the IBF belt, stating, "Bakhram has what I want, and I plan on taking it from him in spectacular fashion. It's time to become a two-time world champion."

Main Events CEO Kathy Duva is confident this match will be a thrilling encounter. She noted that Murtazaliev had long expressed his desire to face Tszyu, aiming to make the fight happen in the U.S. to maximize exposure. With both fighters known for their aggressive styles, Duva is predicting that this could be a "fight of the year" contender.

In the co-main event, Yoenis Tellez (8-0, 6 KOs) is set to defend his WBA Continental Latin American super welterweight title against Johan Gonzalez (35-3, 34 KOs).

Tellez, who first claimed the regional title with a knockout win over Livan Romero, successfully defended it in April with a unanimous decision against Joseph Jackson. At just 24 years old, Tellez is building momentum and establishing himself as a fighter to watch in the super welterweight division.

His opponent, Johan Gonzalez, is a seasoned Venezuelan fighter with vast experience, both in the amateur and professional ranks. Despite a recent knockout loss to Jesus Ramos in May, Gonzalez bounced back with a victory over Ivan Herrera in August and is eager to take on another challenge. With his powerful knockout ratio, Gonzalez will be aiming to upset the unbeaten Tellez.
