Tim Tszyu says he agreed to move his fight with Errol Spence Jr. from a 158lb catchweight to 160lbs because he wants to defeat the best possible version of the former unified welterweight champion.

The pair will meet at Afterpay Arena in Sydney, where Tszyu will have home advantage in a crucial fight for both men.

“I don’t want any excuses,” Tszyu said. “I want him here, refreshed, rejuvenated, not struggling with weight, everything on point. I want to beat up the best Errol Spence.”

Tszyu also said he was determined to keep the fight intact rather than create further complications over the late request.

“I wanted the fight to happen,” he added. “I’m not a diva. I’m an easy guy.”

Spence has not fought since his ninth-round stoppage defeat to Terence Crawford nearly three years ago and is now attempting to rebuild his career at a higher weight.

Tszyu, meanwhile, has lost three of his last six fights and sees victory over Spence as an opportunity to prove he still belongs at world level.
