Mexican powerhouse Jaime Munguia is set to return to his hometown of Tijuana for a showdown against undefeated Frenchman Bruno Surace at Estadio Caliente. This 10-round super middleweight bout will be streamed live on ESPN+.
Munguia, who’s had an eventful 2024, is coming off a highlight-reel knockout win over Erik Bazinyan in September. Earlier this year, he stepped up to challenge Canelo Alvarez but came up short, losing via unanimous decision. Now, the 28-year-old looks to close out the year with a statement win in front of his passionate hometown fans.

If Munguia secures a victory, potential future opponents include names like Diego Pacheco, David Morrell, or Christian Mbilli. While Munguia has expressed interest in a rematch with Canelo, he will need to face tougher opposition to make that a reality. Even without a second shot at Canelo, Munguia has opportunities to pursue a super middleweight title and continue his career at a high level.
“I’m very happy to be back in the ring and, above all, to be back in Tijuana,” Jaime Munguia said. “This year has been full of hard work and great fights, which has only motivated me to keep pushing forward.”
“I want to give Tijuana a great night of boxing and thank everyone there for always being by my side and supporting me. It won’t be an easy fight, but we’re confident we’ll come out on top. Viva Mexico and Viva Tijuana!”
Surace, while undefeated, has not cracked the top 15 rankings at middleweight and has spent his career fighting lesser-known opponents in France. This matchup represents an opportunity for Surace to gain recognition on a global stage and for Munguia, it’s a return to the kind of matchmaking that built his early career, with relatively safe fights to keep his momentum going.
