Robson Conceição defends his WBC super featherweight title against former champion O’Shaquie Foster in a 12-round rematch at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York. The fight, which will be broadcast live on ESPN+, comes after the World Boxing Council ordered a second bout following Foster’s split-decision loss to Conceição on July 6th. While many fans felt Foster didn’t deserve an immediate rematch, their outcry over the defeat led to this decision.
Conceição dethroned Foster in their first encounter, winning with scores of 116-112, 115-113, while one judge favored Foster with a 116-112 tally. Conceição felt Foster was overly defensive during the fight, with the Brazilian hoping for a more active contest in the rematch. "Foster, don’t run in the ring! See you in Verona," Conceição remarked.
In their previous matchup, Foster spent much of the fight with his back to the ropes, focusing on defense rather than taking offensive risks. Conceição, on the other hand, was the more aggressive fighter, outworking Foster in many of the rounds. The underdog Conceição's victory was seen by many as well-earned, with little controversy surrounding the outcome, despite the clamor for a rematch from Foster’s fans.

Promoter Bob Arum has touted the rematch as an opportunity to "set things straight," although many feel there’s no need for redemption after Conceição’s decisive win. Arum noted that the winner of the rematch will position himself for potential unification bouts down the road. Nevertheless, critics argue that Foster’s overly defensive style in his recent fights, including his split decision win against Abraham Nova earlier this year, has left much to be desired in terms of offensive action.
Conceição, a 2016 Olympic gold medalist, will look to prove that his initial victory was no fluke. Foster, on the other hand, will need to make significant adjustments if he hopes to reclaim his title and avoid the same pitfalls that led to his defeat in their first meeting.

The co-main event will feature Raymond Muratalla (21-0, 16 KOs) squaring off against Jesus Perez (25-5, 18 KOs).
Unbeaten contender Raymond Muratalla is on the verge of a world title shot after a flawless 2023, where he notched three knockouts in as many fights. The 27-year-old lightweight started the year with an impressive comeback win in March, rising from a first-round knockdown to stop Galindo with a body shot in the ninth round. In May, Muratalla dismantled Jeremiah Nakathila in just two rounds on the undercard of the Devin Haney vs. Vasiliy Lomachenko pay-per-view. He finished his remarkable year by stopping Mexican power puncher Diego Torres in eight rounds.
“I’m excited to get back in the ring. I like staying active, so fighting for the third time this year will keep me sharp as I get closer to a world title," said Muratalla. "Jesus Perez is tough and experienced. He’ll bring the fight, which means it will be an exciting clash where I can show my skills."
Perez, hailing from Tijuana, Mexico, started his career with an impressive 21-0 record, including 16 knockouts, before suffering his first defeat against the then-unbeaten Ruslan Madiyev in May 2018. Since then, Perez has faced some stiff competition, testing welterweight contender Alexis Rocha and future WBO welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr.
