Super middleweight champion, Canelo Alvarez is set to square off against Jermell Charlo in Las Vegas on Showtime PPV. This comes as a surprise, squashing rumors of a bout against WBC middleweight titlist, Jermall Charlo.
Alvarez, who unified the super middleweight division with an eleventh-round knockout of Caleb Plant in 2022, took a break from the DAZN platform for his recent fights. He experienced a defeat at the hands of WBA light heavyweight titlist, Dmitry Bivol, but quickly bounced back by defending his super middleweight championship against Gennadiy Golovkin.

Alvarez’s most recent fight saw him defend his undisputed championship against England’s John Ryder. This was his tenth overall fight on a DAZN platform, marking the end of his long-standing association with HBO and its PPV service.
The bout with Charlo will mark a significant move for the junior middleweight, who holds all the major divisional titles. His last fight was sixteen months ago when he unified the 154-pound division by defeating Brian Castano. This interrupts Charlo’s plans to defend his title against Tim Tszyu. The WBO has yet to comment on how this will impact Tszyu’s overdue title fight.

The co-main event features undefeated sensation Jesus “Mono” Ramos Jr. (20-0, 16 KOs) squaring off against top contender Erickson “Hammer” Lubin (25-2, 18 KOs) in a 12-round super welterweight bout. Ramos, a 22-year-old southpaw, has been on a knockout spree, stopping seven of his last 10 opponents. On the other side, 27-year-old Lubin is coming off an impressive fifth-round stoppage of veteran Luis Arias and aims to continue his resurgence in the division.
Adding to the excitement, former world champions Yordenis Ugas (27-5, 12 KOs) and Mario “El Azteca” Barrios (27-2, 18 KOs) will go toe-to-toe for the Interim WBC Welterweight Title. Ugas, who defeated the legendary Manny Pacquiao, is looking to bounce back after a unification bout defeat to Errol Spence Jr. Barrios, a San Antonio native, is coming off a sensational knockout win over Jovanie Santiago and aims to make a statement in the welterweight division.
Kicking off the action are rising middleweights Elijah Garcia (15-0, 12 KOs) and Armando Reséndiz (14-1, 10 KOs) in a 10-round bout. Garcia, one of 2023’s breakout stars, has knocked out six of his last eight opponents and aims to continue his ascent. Reséndiz, on the other hand, is coming off a career-best victory over former unified champion Jarrett Hurd and is looking to extend his winning streak.
“These three matchups deliver everything boxing fans could hope for in a pay-per-view undercard and are worthy of the historic main event clash they will lead up to,” said Tom Brown, President of TGB Promotions. With each fighter having the opportunity to catapult themselves to the top of their respective division, fans can expect a night filled with drama, skill, and knockout power.
