Vergil Ortiz Jr. will defend his WBC interim junior middleweight title against Erickson Lubin on November 8 at the Dickies Center in Fort Worth, Texas, live worldwide on DAZN. It’s a hometown return for Ortiz (23-0, 21 KOs), who’s coming off an impressive points win over Israil Madrimov in February and says he’s “always happy to be a part of the fights that fans want to see.”
This wasn’t the first choice on paper. Ortiz had pushed for a unification shot at WBO titleholder Xander Zayas, but talks fizzled before last week’s deadline. Rumors of a 2026 clash with Jaron “Boots” Ennis were also shot down by Ortiz’s camp. Manager Rick Mirigian framed Lubin as the rare elite who said yes: “Golden Boy tried every major opponent and no one would fight Vergil… credit to Lubin for doing what no one else would.”

For Lubin (27-2, 19 KOs), it’s a high-stakes road trip and a shot at redemption. The 29-year-old IBF No. 1 contender has reeled off three straight wins since his 2022 thriller with Sebastian Fundora, including victories over Jeison Rosario and Jesus Ramos. “This is the moment I’ve been waiting for,” Lubin said. “This fight is about redemption; I’m back for everything.”

In the co-main event, Darius “DFG” Fulghum is determined to rejoin the title conversation when he faces David “Dynamite” Stevens.
Fulghum (14-1, 12 KOs) enters the bout eager to rebound from his first professional loss - a razor-thin unanimous decision to Bektemir Melikuziev last May in Las Vegas. Ranked No. 6 by the WBA, the 29-year-old Houston-based super middleweight says his comeback starts with a new mindset. “I needed to change my mental approach,” Fulghum said. “Coming off a loss, I really want to make a splash. I’m not far away – one or two more fights – but it all depends on how I perform.”
His opponent, Stevens (15-2, 10 KOs) of Reading, Pennsylvania, brings solid credentials, including wins over Petr Khamukov, Marco Antonio Periban, and Sean Hemphill. Having sparred together in Houston, Fulghum knows the danger Stevens presents. “He is unique to himself; unlike anybody I’ve fought,” Fulghum said. “This is a dangerous fight. He’s going to bring his stuff; I need to set the tone from the start.”
A decorated amateur, Fulghum was the 2018 National Golden Gloves champion and won the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials before turning pro as a super middleweight. With backing from 3 Point Management, which also represents Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez and Oleksandr Gvozdyk, Fulghum hopes that a strong performance in Fort Worth will put him back on track for a world title opportunity in 2026.
