Vergil Ortiz Jr. says he is having difficulty securing his next fight after resolving his contractual dispute with Golden Boy Promotions.
Ortiz has not fought since stopping Erickson Lubin in the second round last November. His dispute with Golden Boy kept him inactive until the two sides reached a settlement in July.
“We want anyone that’s willing to fight,” Ortiz said. “We’re just having problems getting fights right now. No one wants to fight, if I’m being honest.”
A potential fight with Jaron Ennis now appears less likely after Ennis defeated Xander Zayas to win the WBA and WBO super welterweight titles. Ennis is instead prioritising IBF champion Josh Kelly and WBC champion Sebastian Fundora in pursuit of undisputed status.
Ortiz has also said he would be willing to move up to middleweight if necessary. One possible opponent suggested is unbeaten Cuban contender Yoenli Hernandez, although no negotiations between the two have been reported.
