Oscar De La Hoya has called for Jaron Ennis and Vergil Ortiz Jr. to meet before the end of 2026 after Golden Boy resolved its promotional dispute with Ortiz.

Ennis strengthened his position at super welterweight by stopping Xander Zayas in the sixth round last month, becoming a two-division unified champion and adding the WBO and WBA titles to his collection.

The 29-year-old could pursue further unification fights against WBC champion Sebastian Fundora or IBF titleholder Josh Kelly, but a showdown with Ortiz may offer the biggest commercial opportunity available.

Ennis and Ortiz were previously close to finalizing a fight before Ortiz became involved in a dispute with Golden Boy. That issue has now been settled, clearing the way for the 28-year-old to resume his career.

“I am extremely happy to announce that Golden Boy and Vergil Ortiz have patched things up,” De La Hoya wrote. “Let’s make the biggest fight happen: ‘Boots’ Ennis vs Vergil Ortiz this year.”
