Jaron Ennis is no longer prioritizing a fight with Vergil Ortiz Jr. as he focuses on becoming undisputed super welterweight champion. Ennis became a two-division unified champion last month by stopping Xander Zayas in seven rounds to claim the WBA and WBO titles at 154lbs.
His father and trainer, Derek “Bozy” Ennis, said Ortiz is now “on the back burner” after their proposed fight collapsed earlier this year.
“We are not even thinking about him now,” Bozy said. “He made us wait.”
Ennis is instead targeting the division’s other champions, WBC titleholder Sebastian Fundora and IBF champion Josh Kelly.
“Boots wants to unify all of the titles,” Bozy said. “That is undisputed. Once we do that, whoever.”
Kelly must first defend his title against Caoimhin Agyarko, while Fundora is expected to face Ermal Hadribeaj later this year.
