At 38, Derevyanchenko aims to rejuvenate his career with a victory over Mbilli, which could set him up for another shot at a world title:
“I made the decision to move up to 168 to win a world title. During my entire career, I have always fought the best in the world, and on August 17, it will be no different. I’m fighting a tough opponent in Christian Mbilli, who’s ranked No. 1 in the WBC. If I win this fight, I expect to fight for a world title next.”
Mbilli, while boasting an impressive record, remains untested against elite opposition. His recent victories over fighters like Mark Heffron, Rohan Murdock, Demond Nicholson, Carlos Gongora, and Vaughn Alexander have undeniably showcased his potential, but the bout against Derevyanchenko will be his first true test at the world level.
In the co-main event, heavyweight Arslanbek Makhmudov (19-1, 18 KOs), ranked 11th globally by the WBC, will take on Top Rank’s prospect Guido Vianello (12-2-1, 10 KOs), ranked 35th. Makhmudov, known as “The Lion,” is eager to secure the biggest win of his career and silence Vianello, who has called him an “easy fight.”
Osleys “El Tornado” Iglesias (11-0, 10 KOs), the IBO super middleweight champion, will face former world title challenger Sena “The African Assassin” Agbeko (28-3, 22 KOs). Iglesias, ranked 5th by the WBC and 10th by the IBF, aims to continue his knockout streak against the tough and experienced Agbeko.
