Canelo Alvarez’s fight with Christian Mbilli has been postponed and is now expected to take place in late October in Riyadh.
The WBC super middleweight title fight had originally been scheduled for September 12, but the date has now been pushed back as part of Riyadh Season’s boxing calendar. An exact October date has not yet been announced, and no official reason has been given for the delay.
The fight will be Canelo’s first appearance since his unanimous decision loss to Terence Crawford in September 2025, which has ended his run as undisputed super middleweight champion.
Canelo later vacated the WBC title instead of defending it against mandatory challenger Mbilli, which led the WBC to elevate the unbeaten French-based contender from interim champion to full champion.
Mbilli now waits longer for the biggest fight of his career. He enters unbeaten and will look to prove himself as the leading name at 168lbs, while Canelo will try to reclaim the WBC belt and rebuild after the Crawford defeat.
The postponement means Canelo will have gone more than a year between fights by the time he returns in Riyadh.
