Three-division women’s champion and current undisputed middleweight champ Claressa Shields is set to move up to light heavyweight to challenge current heavyweight titleholder Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.
Shields, renowned for her exceptional amateur and professional achievements, has often struggled to attract the same level of attention, ticket sales, and viewership as her peers like Katie Taylor, Amanda Serrano, and Mikaela Mayer. This leap across two weight classes and the pursuit of a title in a fourth division aims to further enhance her already impressive resume.
"The Queen of Boxing is back! I’m so excited to return to the ring, especially after my MMA victory in February. I’m excited to bring another entertaining fight to Little Caesars Arena. Last time 12,000 fans filled the arena, and this time we’re going to lift the roof off the building!"
Most recently, Shields, from Flint, Michigan, triumphed over Kelsey DeSantis in an MMA fight in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in February. Her last boxing match was in June 2023, when she defended her middleweight titles with a unanimous decision over Maricela Cornejo.

Lepage-Joanisse, who lost her initial challenge for the heavyweight title in 2017 due to her opponent testing positive for illegal substances, made a comeback in March 2023 after nearly six years away from boxing. She won her current title with a unanimous decision over Argentina’s Abril Argentina Vidal.
"It doesn't matter to me whether it's Claressa or someone else. My life is all about challenges. I've always faced them head-on, and I intend to keep it that way."
