Mikaela Mayer and Chantelle Cameron will meet in a junior middleweight title unification fight on August 29 at bp pulse LIVE in Birmingham, England, headlining MVPW-06.
Cameron enters as the WBO junior middleweight champion after moving up two divisions and beating Michaela Kotaskova in April. She had hoped for a third fight with Katie Taylor, but with that no longer happening, she now gets another major pound-for-pound matchup.
“I asked MVP for this fight and they have delivered,” Cameron said. “We’re both top five pound-for-pound fighters, we’re both world champions, and we’re both coming to win.”
Mayer holds the WBO welterweight title and the WBA and WBC junior middleweight belts, which she won by defeating Mary Spencer in October. After signing with MVP in March, she appeared ringside for Cameron’s win over Kotaskova and made it clear she wanted the unification.
“Chantelle Cameron has always been a name I’ve hoped to add to my résumé,” Mayer said. “With our come forward, aggressive styles, I have no doubt that it will be one of the most exciting fights of our generation.”
The card will also feature Caroline Dubois (13-0-1, 5 KOs) defending her unified lightweight titles against Amelia Moore (4-0, 1 KO) in the co-main event.
