Claressa Shields stopped Kaye Scott in the sixth round in Atlanta to reclaim the WBA and WBC middleweight titles.
Shields was fighting at middleweight for the first time since 2023 after dropping from heavyweight. She said she lost 38 pounds during a 14-week training camp to make the 160-pound limit.
The 31-year-old controlled the fight with her speed and accuracy before hurting Scott with body shots in the fifth round. In the sixth, Shields trapped her on the ropes and landed a sustained combination before Scott’s corner threw in the towel.
“It was the most disciplined I’ve been since the Olympics,” Shields said of the weight cut.
Following the victory, Shields named welterweight champion Lauren Price as her preferred next opponent for December or January.
If that fight cannot be made, Shields also mentioned Mikaela Mayer and IBF, WBO and Ring middleweight champion Tamm Thibeault as potential opponents.
