On August 3rd, Terence Crawford is set to challenge WBA junior middleweight champion Israil Madrimov at the BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, California.
Crawford, a three-division champion, has been consistently competing for gold since 2014. Celebrating the one-year anniversary of his dominant win over Errol Spence Jr., which earned him the undisputed welterweight championship, Crawford continues to seek new accolades in the boxing world.
Despite his remarkable achievements, Crawford faces criticism over his choice of opponents. Some detractors question the merit of facing Madrimov, a fighter with an impressive amateur pedigree but relatively few professional fights. Crawford, however, remains unfazed by the naysayers.
"No matter what you do, they’re gonna criticize you," Crawford told The New York Post. "No matter who you fight, they’re gonna criticize. No matter how you fight, they’re gonna criticize. It just tells how great you are. If nobody criticizes you, if nobody is talking about you, then that’s a problem. If you got a whole bunch of critics critiquing you, you’re doing something right."
Israil Madrimov is not to be underestimated too. With seven wins by knockout, including a victory over Magomed Kurbanov to claim the WBA title, the Uzbekistan native thrives under pressure. Confident in his game plan, Madrimov believes he can disrupt Crawford’s winning streak.

In the co-main event, Newly crowned WBA super-lightweight world champion Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz will defend his title against Jose “Rayo” Valenzuela.
In a heavyweight clash, Andy Ruiz (35-2, 22 KOs) will face Jarrell Miller (26-1-1, 22 KOs). Ruiz famously stepped in for Miller to challenge Anthony Joshua in June 2019, delivering a stunning upset by knocking Joshua down four times and taking the victory in the seventh round. This win made Ruiz the first Mexican boxer to secure a heavyweight title. However, his rematch with Joshua six months later didn't go as planned, as Ruiz appeared unprepared and lost the titles. Since then, Ruiz has been trying to regain his former glory, with his last fight being a victory over Luis Ortiz in September 2022.
Watch off the cuff with Jarrell Miller:

Miller, originally set to fight Joshua in 2019, was pulled from the bout after failing a drug test and subsequently faced a suspension. He returned to the ring in 2022, winning three consecutive fights before encountering his first professional defeat in December 2022 against Daniel Dubois.
Moreover, Jared Anderson (17-0, 16 KOs), the leading American heavyweight prospect, will face his toughest challenge yet when he fights Martin Bakole (20-1, 15 KOs).
Anderson was initially slated to fight former champion Deontay Wilder during the Riyadh Season event headlined by Terence Crawford versus Israil Madrimov. However, Wilder's brutal fifth-round TKO loss to Zhilei Zhang on Saturday eliminated him from consideration.
Instead, Anderson will now face Bakole, marking his first top-level opponent. Bakole, 30, hailing from the Democratic Republic of Congo, is ranked No. 10 heavyweight by ESPN. He is also the younger brother of former cruiserweight champion Ilunga Makabu.
Anderson, who trains in Houston and is ranked No. 8 heavyweight by ESPN, will be facing a much larger opponent than his previous bout. Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 250.9 pounds, Anderson dominated the smaller Ryad Merhy, who is 5-9 and weighed 135.6 pounds, over ten rounds in April. However, Bakole, who is 6-6 and weighed in at 299.5 pounds for his fourth-round TKO victory over Carlos Takam in December in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, poses a different challenge.

Also on the card, Cuban Olympic gold medalist Andy Cruz (3-0, 1 KO) will face Antonio Moran (30-6-1, 21 KOs) in a 10-round junior welterweight fight. Cruz, who began his professional career ambitiously by fighting ten rounds in his debut, continues to seek challenging opponents early in his career. Moran, having revived his career by winning the Pro Box TV Last Chance Tournament, aims to maintain his momentum following a victory over Romero Duno earlier this year.
