Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing is making a comeback to Monaco, as the main event is set to feature Welsh icon Joe Cordina (16-0, 9 KOs) defending his IBF Super Featherweight title against Edward Vazquez (15-1, 3 KOs) at the renowned Casino de Monte Carlo on DAZN.
This event would mark Matchroom’s first in Monaco since November 2019, as no events were held post-pandemic in the region. Traditionally, these events are hosted in a casino, accommodating around 500 attendees, with the gate revenue being replaced by a substantial hosting fee.
Cordina, a two-time titleholder, is coming off a triumphant bout against Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov last April. The 31-year-old champion, trained by Tony Sims, previously celebrated a victory in Monaco against Mario Enrique Tinoco in 2019. Vazquez, on the other hand, is seizing his first World Title shot, having recovered from a narrow defeat to Raymond Ford in May 2022 with a series of wins.
The event promises more thrilling matchups. South Africa’s Sive Nontshinga (12-0, 9 KOs) will be defending his IBF Light Flyweight title against Mexico’s Adrian Curiel Dominguez (22-4-1, 3 KOs). French Olympic Bronze medalist, Souleymane Cissokho (16-0, 9 KOs), is set to defend his WBC Silver Welterweight Title against the hard-hitting Mexican, Isaias Lucero (16-1, 10 KOs). In a gripping rematch, Ramla Ali (8-1-0, 2 KOs) seeks redemption against Julissa Guzman (13-2-2, 7 KOs) for the IBF Inter-Continental Super-Bantamweight Championship. Ali, a global ambassador for several brands and one of Time Magazine’s Women of the Year for 2023 aims to further her legacy with a win.
