The former unified junior middleweight champion, Julian ”J-Rock” Williams (28-3-1, 16 KOs), is set to face WBC Interim champion Carlos Adames (22-1, 17 KOs) at the Minneapolis Armory in Minneapolis.
This electrifying bout offers a golden opportunity for both fighters to secure their place in the middleweight title picture, as WBC champion Jermall Charlo has been notably absent since 2021. Undoubtedly, the WBC is maneuvering to set up a title shot for the victor of this showdown.
Hailing from the Dominican Republic, Adames boasts an impressive win over Juan Macias Montiel for the Interim title in 2022 and has enjoyed a four-fight winning streak since his 2019 loss to Patrick Teixeira. Meanwhile, J-Rock is determined to reclaim his former glory after a series of setbacks, including the loss of his unified titles to Jeison Rosario and a subsequent defeat at the hands of Vladimir Hernandez.
However, 2022 has seen a resurgence in J-Rock’s career as he embraces the middleweight division, with the return of his long-time trainer Stephen “Breadman” Edwards in his corner. This bout between Adames and Williams was fated to occur, as fans may recall that Adames was rumored to be a contender for J-Rock’s attention when Jarret Hurd decided against a rematch.
With a potential title shot on the line, both fighters are expected to deliver their best performance in this captivating match. The stakes are high, and boxing enthusiasts will undoubtedly be on the edge of their seats as these two skilled athletes vie for a chance at the middleweight championship.
In the co-main event of the evening, 2013 Golden Gloves amateur champion Erickson Lubin (24-2, 17 KOs) faces Luis Arias (20-3-1, 9 KOs) in the 10 rounds clash.
