Carlos Adames says he is moving up to super middleweight and claims two current champions at 168lbs have already turned down fights with him.

The WBC middleweight titleholder first announced his move in March, but WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman recently said he believed Adames would remain at 160lbs. Adames has now made it clear that his plans have not changed.

“Let me say it again: I’m moving up to 168,” Adames wrote on social media. “Two fighters have already turned down the fight. That’s embarrassing… And they’re champions.”

Adames says he wants to go straight after the toughest names in the division. “I’m not the kind of fighter who picks and chooses opponents,” he said. “I’ve always had it the hard way, and everything I’ve achieved has come through sacrifice and hard work.”

The current champions at 168lbs are Osleys Iglesias, Jaime Munguia, Christian Mbilli and Hamzah Sheeraz. Adames has history with Sheeraz after their February 2025 draw at middleweight, a fight many felt Adames deserved to win.

Mbilli is already booked to face Canelo Alvarez on September 12, but Adames says he is ready for anyone else in the division. “Everyone wants to take the easy path and that’s exactly why these fights never happen,” he said. “I’m ready for anybody at 168. Name the opponent.”
