Carlos Adames has announced he will move up to super middleweight following his latest title defense at 160lbs.
The WBC middleweight champion made the decision after a unanimous decision win over Austin Williams, stating that he is ready for a new challenge despite still being able to make the weight.
“I make 160 very easily, but I’ll make 168 shake even more – here I come,” Adames said. “Tell 168 that ‘Bronco’ has arrived.”
Adames spent the past five years competing at middleweight, going unbeaten in that period. His run included wins over Sergiy Derevyanchenko, Julian Williams, and Terrell Gausha, along with a draw against Hamzah Sheeraz.
With the move to 168lbs, Adames enters a division with multiple titleholders. Christian Mbilli holds the WBC title, while Armando Resendiz is the WBA champion. The IBF title will be contested between Osleys Iglesias and Pavel Silyagin in April, and the WBO belt is currently vacant.
