Biography
Miguel Ángel Berchelt Cervera, nicknamed "El Alacrán" or "The Scorpion," is a Mexican professional boxer who previously held the WBC super featherweight title from 2017 to 2021. Born on November 17, 1991, in Cancún, Quintana Roo, Mexico, Berchelt stands at 5’7 inches In his amateur years, Berchelt initially tried out for his childhood football club, Pumas UNAM, at the age of 16, but his attempt was unsuccessful. Subsequently, he transitioned to boxing and became a three-time Mexican National Boxing Champion in the Elite category. Despite his success at the national level, Berchelt did not represent Mexico internationally in boxing because Óscar Valdez held the top rank in the featherweight division, preventing them from competing against each other as amateurs.
Beginning his professional journey at the age of 18, Berchelt relocated from Cancún to Mérida. He made his professional debut on his 19th birthday, securing a victory over Armin Chan via technical knockout in the 2nd round. During his early career, Berchelt lived in a single room situated above a gym, sharing the space with six other boxers, showcasing his determination and commitment to his craft.
