Initially engaging in rugby league for the North Mackay Magpies as a junior player, Liam discovered his passion for boxing at the age of 13, prompting him to redirect his focus solely on a boxing career, leaving rugby league behind. When he turned 20, Liam moved to Brisbane, where he had the opportunity to train alongside future world champion Jeff Horn.
