Biography
James Dickens (born 12 April 1991 in Liverpool, England), widely known as “Jazza”, is a British professional boxer who has competed across the super bantamweight, featherweight and super-featherweight divisions. A natural southpaw, Dickens developed his craft in Liverpool’s strong amateur scene, representing England at junior level and winning the senior ABA bantamweight title in 2010 before turning professional the following year.
Dickens made a fast start to his professional career, winning his first 13 bouts and capturing the English super-bantamweight title in 2013. Later that year, he suffered his first professional defeat when stopped by Kid Galahad in a British title fight. After rebuilding, Dickens claimed the British super-bantamweight championship in 2015, establishing himself as one of the country’s most durable and technically sound operators despite a fractured jaw loss to Guillermo Rigondeaux in a world-title challenge the following year.
A move up in weight rejuvenated his career, with Dickens enjoying notable success at featherweight. He won the IBO featherweight title in 2022 and produced standout performances in the Golden Contract tournament, including a victory over Leigh Wood. Although he later lost the IBO belt, Dickens continued to compete at a high level.
In 2025, Dickens reached the pinnacle of his career at super-featherweight, defeating Albert Batyrgaziev by fourth-round stoppage to claim the IBA and WBA interim titles before being elevated to full WBA super-featherweight champion later that year. Known for his toughness, ring intelligence and experience at world level, Dickens remains one of Britain’s most accomplished fighters of his generation.
