Biography
Jamaine Ortiz, known as “The Technician,” is an American professional boxer born on April 28, 1996, Ortiz had a notable amateur career, compiling a record of 100 wins and 14 losses. He achieved second place in the Golden Gloves Nationals and the Olympic Trials Qualifier, and third place in the Olympic Trials.
Turning professional on May 13, 2016, Ortiz quickly made a name for himself. He secured a second-round TKO against Mustapha Hamiche in March 2017. One of his career highs came on May 21, 2022, when he defeated former WBO junior lightweight champion Jamel Herring by unanimous decision, capturing the IBF USBA and retaining the NABF lightweight titles. Ortiz faced his first professional defeat against Vasiliy Lomachenko on October 29, 2022, in a competitive bout that went the distance. He then challenged Teofimo Lopez for the WBO junior welterweight title on February 8, 2024, but lost by unanimous decision. Ortiz returned to the ring and secured victories over Cristian Ruben Mino in November 2024 and Yomar Alamo in March 2025, the latter by unanimous decision.
He continues to give back to the same Boys and Girls Club that introduced him to boxing, often mentoring young athletes and supporting local youth programs. While he may not be a military commander like his former opponent Vasiliy Lomachenko, Ortiz carries himself as a commander within his community - leading by example.
