Biography

Isaac Dogboe, known as “The Royal Storm,” is a Ghanaian-British professional boxer. Born on September 26, 1994, in Accra, Ghana, Dogboe moved to London at the age of eight, where he began his boxing journey under the guidance of his father, Paul Dogboe - a former British Army serviceman and boxing trainer. Growing up in South London, Dogboe initially wanted to be a footballer. Training sessions often began with early morning runs, followed by school, and concluded with evening workouts in local parks. During his tenure at Fitzroy Lodge ABC and later at the Territorial Army London Boxing Club.

In 2012, Dogboe made a significant mark at the African Olympic Qualifying Event, earning a silver medal after a tightly contested final that ended in a 6:6 draw. That same year, he represented Ghana in the bantamweight division at the London Olympics, where he suffered a controversial first-round loss to Japan’s Satoshi Shimizu - a decision that drew criticism from many observers. In 2013, Dogboe continued to build on his amateur success by winning the Amateur Boxing Association British lightweight title.

Dogboe turned professional in August 2013, making his debut with a third-round knockout of Csaba Toth in Bern, Switzerland. In January 2018, he won the interim WBO Super Bantamweight title by defeating Cesar Juarez. He then faced Jessie Magdaleno in April 2018, overcoming a first-round knockdown to win by 11th-round TKO, becoming Ghana’s youngest-ever world champion at age 23. Dogboe successfully defended his title against Hidenori Otake in August 2018. However, Dogboe lost the title to Emanuel Navarrete in December 2018 and suffered a subsequent TKO loss in their May 2019 rematch. He returned to the ring in July 2020, defeating Chris Avalos, and continued his comeback with victories over Adam Lopez and Christopher Diaz in 2021, and Joet Gonzalez in 2022, capturing the WBO International Featherweight title. In April 2023, Dogboe challenged Robeisy Ramírez for the vacant WBO Featherweight title but lost via unanimous decision.

Dogboe has expressed a desire to pursue a degree in sociology, aiming to change perceptions of boxing in Ghana. He is actively involved in charitable initiatives, including the “Boxing Is Love” foundation, which supports young boxers in Ghana by providing equipment and mentorship. In 2018, he visited the Akotoku Academy in Accra to inspire the next generation of Ghanaian fighters.

Technical Overview

Dogboe is not afraid to step to anyone off the whistle, Dogboe can set his shots up with a lead hook or a jab. He has a talent for up the left hand on any of his shots that typically hurts his opponents. He’s a hunter his prey with head or body shots, and vice versa. Dogboe's IQ is so high he controls the ring, not only with his pivots but with his steering wheel-like combinations where he can pick where his opponent is going to step next anywhere in the ring. He forces his opponents to walk around the ring, controlling the position for them wherever he wants so he can vicious uppercuts or force them to the ropes where he could tee off, viciously on his opponents, allowing him to protect himself and his exchanges, or when he’s tired, but he’s not saying duck here best believe he’s gonna come back with a double or hook or rear uppercut that’s going to make his opponent rethink life. Despite his high pace he typically lands clean shots and he has another gear when looking for a stoppage or is a need to win around if his opponent walks up too high or too low overhand often. In the center of the ring, Dogboe loves to squat down by his mouthguard and slug out but his slippery movement usually ensures he’s coming out and unscaled. Uppercuts also go straight down the middle allowing for his three to disorientate his opponents finishing the combination like a true master of Boxing.
