Biography
Christopher “Pitufo” Díaz is a Puerto Rican professional boxer who has built a reputation as a fearless competitor in the featherweight and super featherweight divisions. Born in Philadelphia on October 31, 1994, but raised in Puerto Rico, Díaz became a fan favorite for his aggressive style and high-energy performances in the ring. He turned professional in 2013 and quickly established himself as one of Top Rank’s most exciting prospects, earning ESPN Deportes’ Prospect of the Year award in 2016. By 2017, he had captured the WBO-NABO junior lightweight title, a stepping stone toward world championship contention.
In 2018, Díaz challenged Masayuki Ito for the vacant WBO junior lightweight title in Kissimmee, Florida. Despite a spirited performance, he fell short, losing by unanimous decision in his first attempt at world championship gold. He rebounded with strong victories, but in 2019 he suffered another setback when he dropped a decision to rising star Shakur Stevenson. Still, Díaz’s willingness to face top-tier opposition only enhanced his reputation as a fighter unafraid of risk.
Díaz’s resilience was tested again in April 2021, when he fought Emanuel Navarrete for the WBO featherweight championship. In a dramatic fight that showcased his toughness, Díaz was stopped in the 12th round but earned praise for pushing the relentless Mexican champion into deep waters. Later that same year, he faced former WBO super bantamweight titleholder Isaac Dogboe. The bout ended in a narrow majority decision loss for Díaz, further underscoring the competitive edge he brings even against elite opposition.
