IBF super-featherweight champion Eduardo “Sugar” Núñez will make the maiden defence of his 130-lb crown on 6 September, facing American challenger Christopher Díaz in Los Mochis, Mexico, live worldwide on DAZN.
Núñez, 28, captured the vacant belt in May with a clinical stoppage of Japan’s Masanori Rikiishi and now returns home intent on launching a unification campaign. Promoter Eddie Hearn believes the big-punching Sinaloa native can grow into Mexico’s next breakout star, provided he comes through what will be Díaz’s third attempt at a world title.

Díaz has previously fallen short against Shakur Stevenson at featherweight and Emanuel Navarrete at 130 lbs, yet remains an experienced, battle-hardened opponent who promises to test Núñez’s ambitions. Victory would keep the champion on course for mouth-watering clashes with the other beltholders in the division, most enticingly an all-Mexican showdown with WBO titlist Navarrete. Potential unification bouts with WBA champion Lamont Roach Jr. and WBC titleholder O’Shaquie Foster also loom on the horizon.
