Zuffa Boxing has confirmed the main event for its second show, as former WBA super lightweight titleholder Jose Valenzuela faces Diego Torres in a 10-round lightweight bout on February 1. The event will take place at the Meta Apex and air live on Paramount+.
Valenzuela (14-3, 9 KOs), a 26-year-old southpaw from Mexico, is looking to regain momentum after losing his WBA 140-pound title in a one-sided unanimous decision defeat to Gary Antuanne Russell last March. His recent run has been uneven, as he has gone 2-3 in his last five fights dating back to 2022.
That stretch included the first loss of Valenzuela’s career, a third-round knockout against Edwin De Los Santos in September 2022, followed by a controversial decision loss to Chris Colbert later that year. Valenzuela avenged that defeat in December 2023 with a dominant sixth-round knockout of Colbert, a win that led to a title opportunity against Isaac Cruz. He capitalized in August 2024 by outboxing Cruz to a split decision victory before failing to defend the belt against Russell.
Torres (22-1, 19 KOs), 28, enters as a heavy-handed challenger who has built most of his career in Mexico. His lone defeat came in his only bout outside the country, a November 2023 loss to Raymond Muratalla. Since then, Torres has rebounded with four consecutive victories.
