Jose “Rayo” Valenzuela believes he has become one of boxing’s most avoided fighters after his destructive rematch victory over Edwin De Los Santos.
Valenzuela avenged his previous stoppage defeat by knocking out De Los Santos in the opening round, then immediately called for a fight with Shakur Stevenson. Stevenson showed little interest in the matchup.
“I’m scared none of these guys are going to want to call my name,” Valenzuela said. “I think I’m a nightmare for all these guys.”
The former champion insists he is ready for any major opportunity and has welcomed fights with Raymond Muratalla or the winner of William Zepeda vs Lamont Roach Jr.
“If the opportunity presents itself, I’ll be ready,” Valenzuela said.
Valenzuela’s power makes him a dangerous opponent, but he believes the limited financial reward attached to fighting him is making it harder to secure the marquee matchup he wants.
