Amanda Serrano will return home to Puerto Rico on January 3 to defend her unified WBA and WBO featherweight titles against unbeaten contender Reina Tellez at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan. The fight replaces Serrano’s planned rematch with Erika Cruz, which was cancelled following an “atypical finding” in Cruz’s Voluntary Anti-Doping Association testing, as confirmed by Most Valuable Promotions.
Serrano, 37, enters the bout with a record of 47-4-1 (31 KOs) and is looking to rebound after consecutive defeats to Katie Taylor. While disappointed the Cruz rematch could not go ahead, Serrano emphasized that respect for the sport came first and welcomed the opportunity to defend her titles at home. She also highlighted the importance of continuing to push women’s boxing forward under equal rules, calling the January 3 event a showcase of Puerto Rican pride.
Tellez (13-0-1, 5 KOs) steps into the biggest fight of her career as a late replacement. The 22-year-old Team USA veteran previously held the WBC Youth featherweight title and now gets a chance to challenge for two major world belts. Fighting out of Vero Beach, Florida, Tellez brings an unblemished professional run into a matchup that represents a dramatic leap in experience and stakes.
“This is the moment I’ve been fighting for my whole life,” Tellez said, acknowledging Serrano as a fighter she has long admired while making it clear she intends to win. She framed the opportunity as a chance to represent her roots and every fighter chasing a dream, promising to bring everything she has on fight night.
The card also features a strong co-main event, with WBA lightweight champion Stephanie Han (11-0, 3 KOs) defending her title against former boxing and UFC champion Holly Holm (34-2-3, 9 KOs).
Holm returned to boxing in 2025 after a 12-year absence, signing with Most Valuable Promotions and earning a unanimous decision win over Yolanda Vega in June. A former three-division world champion in boxing and a 2022 International Boxing Hall of Fame inductee, the 44-year-old is now chasing a fourth divisional title at lightweight.
Best known to many fans for her mixed martial arts career, Holm captured the UFC women’s bantamweight title in 2015 with a knockout of Ronda Rousey. Despite her long break from boxing, Holm has moved quickly back into title contention and will now attempt to add another belt to her résumé at 135 pounds.
Standing in her way is undefeated champion Stephanie Han who won the WBA lightweight title in February with a first-round knockout of Hannah Terlep. The 35-year-old from El Paso, Texas, has been unbeaten since turning professional in 2021 and enters the fight as the reigning titleholder, with Holm representing the most accomplished opponent of her career.
