Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez and Sunny Edwards are set for a thrilling unification fight that has been making waves in the boxing community. Rodriguez will be defending his WBO title, and Edwards is set to put his IBF championship on the line at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona on DAZN.
Rodriguez, a silver medalist from the 2015 Junior World Championships, has been a dominant force since turning pro in 2017. Earning the nickname “Bam” due to his explosive knockout ability, he boasts 11 wins through power punches alone. Rodriguez’s prowess was unmistakably showcased when he took down Carlos Cuadras for the WBC super flyweight title in February 2022, followed by an impressive defense against former champ Srisaket Sor Rungvisai. Earlier in April of 2023, he solidified his reign by defeating Cristian Gonzalez, capturing the WBO flyweight crown in the process.

On the other side of the ring, Sunny Edwards, the 2015 English National Championship gold medalist, has been carving out a stellar trajectory since his professional debut in 2016. In a spectacular rise to prominence, Edwards clinched the British super flyweight title in 2019 and took the boxing world by storm by dethroning long-standing IBF champ Moruti Mthalane in 2021, despite being the underdog. His most recent triumph came in June when he showcased his skill against Chilean challenger Andres Campos, emerging victorious via unanimous decision. Not one to back down from a challenge, Edwards, post this win, publicly taunted Rodriguez with the words, “sign the contract.” Now, the stage is set for a battle that promises fireworks.
The co-main event features a WBA final eliminator clash between Uzbekistan’s Murodjon Akhmadaliev (11-1, 8 KOs) and Mexico’s Kevin Gonzalez (26-0-1, 13 KOs).
Former unified champion Akhmadaliev, who controversially lost his titles to Marlon Tapales in April, aims to re-establish his dominance in the division. Meanwhile, the unbeaten 25-year-old Gonzalez, coming off a decision victory over Jose Sanmartin in March, looks to extend his winning streak.
