Puerto Rican southpaw Jonathan Gonzalez (29-4-1, 14 KOs) makes the first defense of the belt he claimed in January with a decision win over Yankiel Rivera. The 35-year-old is a former WBO light flyweight champion and now looks to strengthen his position at flyweight after moving up in weight.
Abraham Perez (14-0, 7 KOs) of El Paso, Texas, steps into his first major world-level test. The unbeaten 27-year-old earned the opportunity following a decision win over Esneth Domingo in April and now challenges for his first world title. Perez comes in unbeaten and confident, looking to turn his record into a world title win and make a statement on a major platform. He originally looked to face WBO flyweight champion Anthony Olascuaga in July, but Olascuaga didn’t take the fight.
