Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez will defend his two cruiserweight world titles against David Benavidez on May 2 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Premier Boxing Champions officially announced Friday. The bout will headline this year’s traditional Cinco De Mayo weekend event, airing on pay-per-view via Amazon Prime Video as well as cable and satellite providers.
Ramirez (48-1, 30 KOs), a former super middleweight champion, moved up to cruiserweight following his lone career defeat to Dmitry Bivol at light heavyweight in 2022. The 34-year-old from Mazatlan, Mexico, captured the WBA cruiserweight title from Arsen Goulamirian in March 2024, unified with the WBO belt by defeating Chris Billam-Smith later that year, and most recently outpointed Yuniel Dorticos in June 2025. He underwent shoulder surgery in July and returns after a layoff, having originally targeted a January bout with Robin Sirwan Safar before that fight fell through due to Safar’s hand injury.

Benavidez (31-0, 25 KOs), the current WBC light heavyweight champion, steps up in weight for the challenge. The 29-year-old Arizona native previously held titles at super middleweight before moving to 175 pounds in 2024. He earned the WBC interim belt with a win over Oleksandr Gvozdyk, later defeated David Morrell Jnr in February 2025 to claim a secondary WBA title, and was elevated to full WBC champion after Dmitry Bivol vacated the belt. Benavidez defended his title in November with a seventh-round TKO of Anthony Yarde.
In the co-main event, WBA super middleweight champion Armando Resendiz (16-2, 11 KOs) will defend his title against Jaime Munguia (45-2, 35 KOs), who steps in for Jermall Charlo following his withdrawal. Resendiz earned his title with a split decision victory over Caleb Plant last May, while Munguia enters after avenging his loss to Bruno Surace with a unanimous decision win.
The undercard will feature a 10-round junior welterweight bout between Oscar Duarte (30-2-1, 23 KOs) and Angel Fierro (23-4-2, 18 KOs), as well as a 10-round junior middleweight clash between Isaac Lucero (18-0, 14 KOs) and Alan Sandoval (30-0-1, 19 KOs). At least one additional pay-per-view bout is expected to be announced.
Duarte returns after a canceled February title opportunity against IBF champion Richardson Hitchins and most recently scored a majority decision win over Kenneth Sims Jr. Fierro, meanwhile, looks to rebound from a difficult 2025 that included a weight-related withdrawal and a disqualification loss.
