Biography

Vladimir Shishkin was born on July 26, 1991 in Stepnoe, Saratov Oblast, Russia. He was raised in Russia and transitioned into pro boxing after a modest amateur path. amateur level he was not widely known on the international scene. His professional debut came on July 31, 2016 in Riga, Latvia, where he scored a fourth‑round TKO over Andrejs Loginovs.

He built his early career fighting in Russia, capturing the WBA Asia interim and full super‑middleweight titles with knockout victories over Sergey Khomitsky and Gasan Gasanov in 2018. In 2019 he made his U.S. debut, stopping DeAndre Ware in Detroit and later fighting at Kronk Gym where he TKO’d Óscar Riojas in 2020. He went on to defeat Sena Agbeko (UD), Jeyson Minda (TKO), and José Uzcátegui (UD) to rise into IBF title contention. In October 2024 he fought William Scull in Germany for the vacant IBF super‐middleweight title. Shishkin lost by unanimous decision after twelve rounds - his first professional defeat.

Vladimir Shishkin hails from Stepnoye in Saratov Oblast - a modest settlement on the Volga steppe with around 13,000 residents where winters drop below -25 °C and summers can exceed 30 °C. Life in that climate demands resilience like Russian boxing culture. They follow the pendulum‑bounce pattern to stay mobile, maximize economy of motion, and trade only when opportunity presents itself. Just as the element to force them.

Technical Overview

Shishkin rarely overcommits, instead sliding into position with small corrective steps to remain balanced while applying pressure. His upper body stays upright and controlled, often leaning just slightly forward to bait attacks and keep his opponent’s rhythm in check.

One of Shishkin’s most effective combinations begins with a quick jab upstairs followed by a right uppercut to the body, then a short right cross to the head. It’s a structured sequence that disrupts both guard and stance, forcing his opponent to react high, then low, then wide. He follows it with a reset and probes with the jab again keeping his opponent caught between choices. Defensively he rolls with punches and parries without shifting off course.

In his IBF title fight with William Scull, Shishkin applied this structure to great effect, building a lead with steady jab volume and inside counters. He staggered Scull late with a cross-uppercut variation but lost a controversial decision despite controlling most of the rounds. That fight showed the full depth of his style: steady pacing and jab control.Ability to reset tempo after every clinch or break. Shishkin’s not explosive or wild. Shishkin’s persistent and suffocating.

His philosophy mirrors the methodical logic of the Soviet boxing school: repetition over improvisation, fundamentals over flair. Shishkin hails from Stepnoye in Saratov Oblast a rural town where winters drop below –25°C and summers climb above 30°C. That environment shapes his endurance-based style. Early in a bout, he may seem cold or slow, but like the climate of his region, he brings heat over time. He doesn’t try to knock the door down he just leans on it until it gives.
