Biography
Vincent Diazen Astrolabio, born on April 1, 1997, in General Santos City, Cotabato del Sur, Philippines, is a professional boxer known for his strength and determination in the ring. Nicknamed "Asero" (Steel), Astrolabio has competed in both the super flyweight and bantamweight divisions, boasting a professional record of 23 fights with 19 wins (14 by knockout) and 4 losses. He held the WBO Inter-continental and WBC International Bantamweight titles from 2022 to 2023 and challenged for the WBO Bantamweight title in 2023.
Astrolabio made his professional debut on August 14, 2015, with a technical knockout victory over Argie Emendo in Davao City, Philippines. He faced his first major challenge on December 15, 2018, fighting for the vacant WBO Asia Pacific Youth Super Flyweight title against Zhongli He in China, where he lost via majority decision. After moving up to bantamweight, he won the Philippines Mindanao Professional Boxing Federation (MinProBa) bantamweight title against Joe Tejones on July 24, 2017, and later captured the WBO Oriental bantamweight title by defeating Patrick Liukhoto in Indonesia.
In a significant bout, Astrolabio faced Guillermo Rigondeaux for the vacant WBC International bantamweight title in Dubai and won via unanimous decision. He followed this up by capturing the WBO Intercontinental belt after knocking out Russian Nikolai Potapov in his U.S. debut. Despite his success, Astrolabio faced a setback when he lost a majority decision to Jason Moloney for the vacant WBO bantamweight title after Naoya Inoue vacated all his bantamweight titles to move up to super bantamweight.
On July 20, 2023, the WBC ordered a bantamweight title eliminator between Astrolabio and Nawaphon Kaikanha, with the winner set to face mandatory titleholder Alexandro Santiago. The match took place on August 26, 2023, in Bangkok, Thailand, and was broadcast live on Thairath TV. Astrolabio delivered a stellar performance, culminating in an 11th-round technical knockout victory after a powerful counter right punch knocked Kaikanha down. This victory not only highlighted Astrolabio's skill and resilience but also positioned him as a formidable contender in the bantamweight division.
