Biography

At 26 years old, Rohan “El Rayo” Polanco is a five-year professional and an emerging contender in the welterweight division. A decorated amateur, he represented the Dominican Republic at the Tokyo Olympic Games before turning professional and signing with Top Rank in early 2023. Since then, Polanco has remained unbeaten under the promotional banner, steadily building his résumé with composed and disciplined performances.

Polanco went 3–0 in 2024, highlighted by a sixth-round TKO of Marcelino Lopez in September at The Theater at Madison Square Garden.

His momentum carried into 2025, beginning with a second-round knockout of Jean Carlos Torres on February 14 at Madison Square Garden Theater. On May 4, he delivered a dominant unanimous decision over Fabian Andres Maidana at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, scoring a knockdown in the tenth round and capturing the WBO Inter-Continental welterweight title. Polanco capped the stretch on July 26, returning to Madison Square Garden Theater to outpoint Quinton Randall over ten rounds, retaining his title and continuing his steady rise at 147 pounds.

Technical Overview

Rohan Polanco Emiliano’s footwork serves as a tactical advantage, functioning like a jab to maintain range and control. His lateral movement allows him to probe defenses, disrupt his opponent’s rhythm, and create openings for precise counters. By staying unpredictable and forcing constant adjustments, Polanco keeps his opponents on the defensive while dictating the pace of the fight.

Polanco’s style combines fluid movement with precision striking, making him a master of efficiency. Rather than relying on sheer volume, he delivers well-timed, impactful punches that target areas like the temple and equilibrium. His ability to connect with accuracy and timing often leaves opponents off balance, showcasing his gravitational control.
