Mauricio Lara Acosta, born February 23, 1998, in Mexico City Mexico, standing at 5’7 inches, is a Mexican professional boxer from Mexico City who secured the WBA featherweight title in 2023. Despite becoming a superstar by winning a significant fight, he faced a technical draw in the rematch. One of his most challenging opponents was the undefeated former IBF featherweight champion, Josh Warrington, whom he defeated and later faced in a technical draw. Additionally, Lara was booked for a WBA featherweight title fight against Leigh Wood. The first bout took place on February 18, 2023, where Lara claimed the title after knocking down the champion with a left hook in the seventh round. However, the rematch with Wood on May 27, 2023, ended in a loss for Lara via unanimous decision after he missed weight at the official weigh-ins and was stripped of the belt, leaving only Wood eligible to win the vacant championship.
