Biography
Lerrone Richards (born 25 August 1992) is a British professional boxer known for his slick southpaw style and tactical approach in the ring. Born in New Malden, Greater London, Richards enjoyed a strong amateur career, compiling a reported record of 91–9 and earning a bronze medal at the 2013 English National Championships. He also represented Ghana internationally before turning professional, laying a solid technical foundation that would later define his boxing identity.
Richards made his professional debut in September 2013 but saw his early momentum disrupted by managerial disputes, resulting in a lengthy absence from the ring. After signing with Queensberry Promotions, he rebuilt his career steadily and emerged as one of Britain’s leading super-middleweights. Between 2019 and 2021, he captured the British, Commonwealth, and European super-middleweight titles, establishing himself as a top-tier operator at domestic and continental level.
The pinnacle of Richards’ career came in December 2021 when he defeated Carlos Góngora by split decision to win the IBO super-middleweight world title. Entering the 2022–2023 period, Richards adopted a more measured schedule, returning to action with controlled victories that emphasized his ring intelligence rather than aggression. Wins over Harry Matthews and Mickey Ellison reinforced his reputation as a disciplined, defensively sound boxer with elite-level experience.
In 2024, Richards suffered the first defeat of his professional career, being stopped by Steed Woodall while contesting the vacant WBO Inter-Continental super-middleweight title. The loss marked a turning point, prompting reassessment and a shift in direction. Looking beyond 2025, Richards has set his sights on a new chapter at light-heavyweight, aiming to leverage his experience and technical skill as he pursues renewed world-level ambitions.
