Biography
Lauren Price, born June 25, 1994, is a Welsh professional boxer and former amateur boxing champion, as well as a former kickboxer and footballer. She currently holds the WBA, IBO, and Ring female welterweight titles, becoming Wales’ first female professional boxing world champion. Before turning professional, she had a decorated amateur career, winning gold medals at the 2019 World Championships, the 2018 Commonwealth Games, the 2019 European Games, and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Price is known for her exceptional footwork, speed, and technical ability, which have made her one of the most dominant figures in women's boxing.
Born in Newport, Wales, and raised in Ystrad Mynach, Price was introduced to multiple sports from a young age, excelling in football, kickboxing, and netball. She became a four-time world champion and six-time European champion in kickboxing before transitioning to boxing. Inspired by Nicola Adams' Olympic victory in 2012, she pursued an amateur boxing career, where she quickly rose through the ranks, collecting multiple international medals. Simultaneously, she played football at a high level, winning the Welsh Premier Women's Football League with Cardiff City and making appearances for the Wales national team before focusing entirely on boxing.
Price turned professional in 2022 and made history on May 6, 2023, by becoming the first-ever female British welterweight champion. She later claimed the WBA, IBO, and Ring welterweight world titles by defeating Jessica McCaskill via unanimous technical decision on May 11, 2024. Price successfully defended her titles against Bexcy Mateus in December 2024, stopping her in the third round. With her historic achievements and dominant performances, Price continues to solidify her legacy as one of the most accomplished female boxers in British history.
