Biography
Born on November 23, 1996, in Long Island, New York, Kelvin Davis is the eldest of the Davis brothers, a trio known collectively as DB3, which includes Keyshawn and Keon Davis. In 1997, their mother, Wanda Davis, relocated the family to Norfolk, Virginia, where she raised five children. The brothers grew up in a modest household, often sharing limited space and resources.
Kelvin Davis had a notable amateur career, participating in various national tournaments. After a three-year hiatus from boxing, he returned to the sport approximately 10 to 11 months before the 2020 Olympic Trials Eastern Qualifiers, a tournament he dominated.
Kelvin Davis made a strong professional debut with a knockout win over Michael Honesto on December 17, 2020. He picked up a key win against Quincy LaVallais on September 23, 2023. On February 8, 2024, Davis defeated former Olympian Alberto Palmetta in one of his most high-profile bouts to date. He followed that with a one-sided win against Pedro Valencia on June 8, 2024, and earned a unanimous decision win over Yeis Solano on November 8, 2024.
Davis is deeply involved in his community. Alongside his brothers, he co-founded DB3 Enterprises and opened a boxing gym in Virginia Beach, aiming to mentor and train the next generation of boxers. The gym serves as a platform to give back to the community.
Technical Overview
Kelvin Davis is part of the current era of American boxing, continuing the legacy passed down from previous generations. The development resembles how the Roman Empire inherited knowledge and methods from Greece. In the same way, boxing traditions are passed down and adapted over time.
Training with his brother Keyshawn Davis, a WBO lightweight champion, Kelvin adopted similar methods. Under the instruction of coach Brian “BoMac” McIntyre, he applies principles from BoMac’s teaching system, including the use of the jab to set up combinations and control tempo.
This approach is seen in Keyshawn’s victory over Denys Berinchyk in February 2025 and in Kelvin’s method of using his height and reach. He uses a stiff jab to create space and follows with body punches, including the left hook to the liver. His footwork is based on applying the “6-inch rule” to maintain range and movement.
Within the DB3 gym culture, where fighters like Terence “Bud” Crawford and his team often play chess after practice, the strategic mindset is deeply embedded. This intellectual approach mirrors their emphasis on reading opponents and anticipating movements, much like chessmasters predicting several moves ahead. The gym also supports a wrestling program called Ready RP, reinforcing the crossover benefits of grappling and positional control. That reenforces the myelin in a man’s vein.
