Fresh off a fourth-round stoppage of veteran Jose Marruffo at the Orange Pavilion in San Bernardino, California, Kelvin Davis says he’s ready to climb beyond “baby food” matchups and into meaningful showdowns in the junior welterweight division. The 28-year-old Norfolk native, who trains with Brian “BoMac” McIntyre, stands an imposing 6’3” for his weight class and believes it’s time to compete for a top-10 ranking - and ultimately world titles.
Davis comes from a family of fighters known as DB3, alongside rising talents Keon Davis and WBO lightweight titleholder Keyshawn Davis. Unlike his brothers, Kelvin left boxing for three years before returning to win a national tournament at the 2020 Olympic Trials Eastern Qualifiers. Though an Olympic run didn’t materialize, his performances fueled the belief that he could succeed as a professional.

His win over Marruffo, whose role has been testing young contenders after a journeyman career, may have been overshadowed by multiple fight cancellations leading up to Saturday. But Davis feels his performance justifies a step up in competition. “I’m tired of this baby food,” he said. “The better the opposition, the better I fight - and I’m ready for my chance.”
