Biography

Joseph “Action” Jackson, born on October 18, 1988, in Greensboro, North Carolina, is a professional boxer competing in the super welterweight division. Standing at 5’10. Before turning to boxing, Jackson was a standout running back at Dudley High School in Greensboro. He received several football scholarship offers but chose to work at UPS to support his daughter. Seeking to stay in shape, he began boxing recreationally, which eventually led to a full-time professional career.

Jackson’s late entry into boxing meant he lacked a traditional amateur background. He trained diligently, learning on the go and gaining valuable experience by sparring with seasoned fighters like Tony Harrison during Harrison’s preparation for a bout against Jermell Charlo. These experiences, combined with his maturity, allowed Jackson to develop rapidly as a boxer.

Launched his professional boxing career in 2015 with a first-round TKO over Cory Macon. His 2020 unanimous decision victory over Derrick Colemon Jr. in Philadelphia marked a critical test against stiffer competition. He continued to build his record with a series of victories, including wins over Jimmy Ellis, Jauvan John, and Polite Swinson. Jackson’s record climbed to 19-0 with 15 knockouts before he suffered his first professional defeat in 2024 against Cuban standout Yoenis Tellez in a ten-round decision.

Jackson is more than a fighter—he’s a living, breathing image of the American dream born out of grit and devotion. The son of a military veteran and a hardworking chef, Jackson grew up in Greensboro, North Carolina, surrounded by strong examples. As a young man, he turned down athletic scholarships to work full-time at UPS and raise his daughter—proof that his first commitment was always to family, not fame.

Technical Overview

Jackson’s strategy often revolves around a powerful jab that sets up his combinations. Jackson’s jab is instrumental in controlling the early rounds, allowing him to land significant power punches in the fight progression. His orthodox stance and compact frame allow him to close the distance quickly.

One of Jackson’s favored combinations includes a rear hook to the body followed by a lead hook to the head, a sequence that targets both the opponent’s midsection and chin. This approach not only inflicts damage but also forces opponents to adjust their guard, creating further opportunities for Jackson to damage.

His short, snapping uppercut thrives in those trench-like infighting moments—when both fighters are chest to chest, trading inside a phone booth. He uses just 6 inches of smart, subtle footwork—small pivots and inside slips—to create room and reset angles for his uppercuts to land clean. His footwork enables him to dictate the pace of the fight His movements are hard to predict, keeping opponents guessing and preventing them from figuring out his rhythm or setting in their own. It’s not just brute strength; it’s a technical excavation. He digs with intent, forcing opponents to shell up or risk getting lifted off balance by a shot they never saw coming.
