Technical Overview
Jorge Linares has a traditionally conventional boxing style with a focus on fundamentals every boxer must possess. Linares always has a balanced stance, his chin is always tucked and he always snaps his hands back after punching among other boxing fundamental skills. Linares is exceptional at picking his shots when in punching range. He can patiently wait for counter punching openings if his opponent opens up, or he can attack openings he sees in his opponent’s guard. Like many boxing coaches would advise, Linares usually sets up his offense with a jab which he snaps straight from his guard without telegraphing it. He will mix up jabs to the head and to the body of his opponent to remain unpredictable. Linares is great at not overextending on his punches and snapping his hands back into position, but if he sees his opponent not in a position to fire back, he can flow into beautiful combinations to capitalize. Since Linares always holds a balanced stance, he is always ready to punch. If his opponent steps in carelessly, Linares is an expert at immediately punching them in the small window of time where they are open such as mid step. While the emphasis on fundamental boxing has earned Linares the success he has throughout his career, it comes with the downside of him struggling with fighters who have unconventional styles and know the weaknesses of his conventional style.
