Biography

Dan Azeez was born on 30 August 1989 in London, England. Undoubtedly one of the most dominant boxers on the British level, he worked his way up to light heavyweight title challenger status, much like his fellow United Kingdom native and former heavyweight champion of the world, Anthony Joshua. The currently undefeated Azeez secured the British title in 2021, the Commonwealth title in 2022, and the European title starting in March 2023. This underlines Azeez's dominance not only on the British level but also within the European boxing scene, placing him firmly on the radar for a future challenge for a full light heavyweight title. Dan Azeez could be considered somewhat of an intellectual, having attended the well-known University of Essex and obtained a prestigious British college degree in Accounting and Finance. He began his serious boxing training at the Colchester-based amateur boxing club, where he made a name for himself in the amateur ranks, serving as his stepping stone to greatness.

Technical Overview

Azeez's strong work ethic has drawn comparisons to some of the modern British boxing superstars, such as Conor Benn and Chris Eubank, indicating that Azeez is building a fan base and becoming a role model for future world champions from Great Britain, including Leigh Wood. Nevertheless, even with his undefeated record, Azeez's boxing style appears to hark back to a different era compared to his British counterparts. Despite his record, he seems more like a journeyman due to his high level of talent in the light-heavyweight division.

His style is reminiscent of the gentlemen's boxing club era of the 1920s, where fighters adopted a tall stance, and victory often favored the tougher, more physical, and longer fighter, rather than the most technical. That being said, Azeez possesses a strong Western European jab, seemingly genetically suited for his frame. His mental fortitude and exceptional conditioning enable him to utilize the jab not only to control the distance, keeping his opponents in his comfort zone, but also to wear down their body and mind, making them succumb to his will.
