Biography

Christian Medina (born 22 April 2000) is a Mexican professional boxer who competes in the bantamweight division and has held the WBO bantamweight world title since September 2025. Known by the nickname “Chispa” (“Spark”), Medina is recognized for his aggressive style, compact power, and high knockout ratio, which has made him one of the most dangerous punchers in his weight class.

Medina turned professional at a young age and built his reputation on the Mexican domestic circuit, steadily accumulating wins and regional experience. After early setbacks in his career, he rebounded strongly, capturing the WBC Youth bantamweight title in 2021 and establishing himself as a serious contender. Between 2022 and 2024, he refined his game with a mix of decision victories and emphatic stoppages, including a dominant run of knockout wins in Guadalajara and other boxing hubs across Mexico.

A key learning moment came in August 2023 when Medina traveled to Japan to face Ryosuke Nishida in an IBF bantamweight title eliminator, losing by unanimous decision. Rather than stalling his progress, the defeat proved formative. Medina returned with renewed focus, stopping Ivan Meneses in early 2024 and later capturing the WBO Latino bantamweight title with a fifth-round TKO over Alexis Molina Aguirre in November 2024.

Medina reached the pinnacle of his career on 14 September 2025, when he challenged Yoshiki Takei for the WBO bantamweight title in Nagoya, Japan. Defying expectations, Medina produced a career-best performance, stopping Takei in the fourth round to claim his first world championship. The victory marked his arrival on the global stage and positioned him as one of the leading figures in the modern bantamweight division.
