Christian Medina will headline a homecoming title defense when he faces fellow Mexican Adrian Curiel on February 6 in Jalisco, Mexico. The 12-round WBO bantamweight title fight will top a DAZN/ESPN Knockout show from Domo Alcalde, Mexico.
Medina (26-4, 19 KOs) will be making the first defense of the title he captured in dramatic fashion last September. Fighting in Japan, the Guadalajara native scored a major upset by stopping previously unbeaten Yoshiki Takei in four rounds, flooring him early and forcing the stoppage on the Naoya Inoue undercard in Nagoya.
Watch Medina vs. Takei highlights.
Curiel (26-6-1, 5 KOs) enters the bout on a rebound run after a turbulent 2024. The former IBF junior flyweight champion claimed that belt with a stunning first-round knockout of Sivenathi Nontshinga in November 2023, only to lose it in a 10th-round stoppage in their rematch. Since moving up in weight, Curiel has steadied his career, picking up two straight decision wins following a technical decision loss to Sunny Edwards in his flyweight debut.
Medina brings a five-fight knockout streak into the bout and has not tasted defeat since an August 2023 title eliminator loss to Ryosuke Nishida. Now firmly established as Mexico’s latest force at bantamweight, he looks to solidify his reign against a durable countryman.
