Deontay Wilder has set his sights on Anthony Joshua following his split decision victory over Derek Chisora, declaring that the long-discussed heavyweight clash should finally happen.
Wilder dropped Chisora twice on his way to the win in London, delivering a performance that re-established him at a high level after recent losses to Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang. The result marked a shift in momentum for the former WBC champion, who's future was incertain in the sport.
Speaking after the fight, Wilder made his intentions clear regarding a bout with Joshua. “Now it’s time to shut up or put up. I’m willing, ready and able. A healed Wilder is a dangerous Wilder. I’ll come anywhere in the world to fight,” he said.
The fight has eluded both men for years, dating back to when Wilder held the WBC title and Joshua controlled the WBA, WBO, and IBF belts. A more recent attempt to finalize the bout also fell through following Wilder’s loss to Parker, but with both fighters now in the later stages of their careers, the opportunity has resurfaced.
