Newly crowned WBO lightweight champion Keyshawn Davis hoped to start his title reign with a busy 2025. His momentum appeared set after a dominant performance against Denys Berinchyk in February, but Davis now finds himself without an immediate challenger after Edwin De Los Santos rejected a proposed fight offer.

Reports from ESPN Deportes' Salvador Rodriguez indicate De Los Santos was open to facing Davis, only to then request a higher purse. As a result, the deal stalled, leaving Davis in limbo regarding his maiden title defense. The 24-year-old "Businessman” had targeted a potential return in June, with venues ranging from his hometown of Norfolk, Virginia, to the storied Madison Square Garden in New York.

Though the lightweight division is talent-laden, none of the key contenders seem readily available at the moment. Rising prospect Abdullah Mason has been mentioned as a future opponent, but Davis foresees that meeting as a longer-term “super fight." Another name in the mix is Andy Cruz, the Cuban standout who defeated Davis four times in the amateurs. Davis has expressed interest in avenging those losses, but Cruz may not yet be ready to challenge for a world title.

The 135-pound landscape remains one of boxing’s most talent-rich, and Davis had hoped to capitalize on the surging excitement. For now, all eyes are on what path “The Businessman” can forge, as he remains determined to stay active and demonstrate his championship credentials in the months ahead.
